Nick Kyrgios to Miss Wimbledon 2025 After Latest Injury Setback

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has confirmed he will not compete at Wimbledon this year due to a new injury setback, continuing a frustrating run of physical issues that has kept him largely sidelined for the past two seasons.

The 30-year-old, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2022 before losing to Novak Djokovic, announced the news via Instagram, telling fans, “I’ve hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately I won’t make it back for grass season this year.”

Kyrgios has struggled with multiple injuries over the past two years, including a lingering wrist issue that required surgery. His return to competitive tennis has been sporadic and marred by further physical complications. Most recently, he made a brief singles comeback at the Miami Open in March — his first singles win since 2022 — but later withdrew from the French Open, where he was scheduled to play men’s doubles, due to a knee injury.

Persistent Struggles with Fitness

The injury rollercoaster has severely impacted Kyrgios’ career momentum, which had peaked in 2022 with a runner-up finish at Wimbledon and a quarterfinal run at the US Open. Known for his electric style of play and unpredictable on-court behavior, Kyrgios had finally seemed to be channeling his talent into consistent performances. But the physical toll of top-level tennis has kept him from building on that success.

His latest update struck a note of determination despite the disappointment. “I know how much you’ve been looking forward to seeing me out there and I’m genuinely sorry to disappoint,” he wrote. “This is just a bump in the road though and I’m already working hard to get back stronger than ever.”

Wimbledon Without Kyrgios

Kyrgios’ absence will be felt at Wimbledon, where he remains one of the sport’s most compelling figures. His 2022 run, which included victories over top-seeded players and his usual blend of brilliance and drama, reignited interest in his potential to win a major title. His explosive serve, deft touch, and charisma on the grass court had made him a fan favorite at the All England Club.

Wimbledon 2025 begins on 30 June, and the men’s draw will now go ahead without one of its most high-profile entertainers.

What’s Next?

It remains unclear when Kyrgios will return to the tour, or whether his body can withstand the demands of elite tennis in the long term. He has previously hinted that retirement is not far off if his body continues to fail him — but for now, the Australian seems intent on fighting back.

Whether Kyrgios can mount one last run at the top of the game remains to be seen. But for now, fans will have to wait a little longer to see the enigmatic star back on the court.
