New research from the United Kingdom suggests that a simple cup of peppermint tea could be a powerful ally for brain health. Published in the journal Nutritional Neuroscience, the study indicates that peppermint infusion may enhance memory, focus, and overall cognitive performance.
In the experiment, 25 adult participants were split into two groups. While one group consumed a 200 ml serving of peppermint tea, the other did not receive any. Twenty minutes later, both groups were asked to complete a range of memory and attention-based tasks.
The results were striking: individuals who drank peppermint tea showed noticeably better performance, particularly in recalling words and images.
In addition to the cognitive improvements, researchers also detected increased blood flow to the frontal cortex—the brain region linked with decision-making, concentration, and problem-solving—in those who consumed the tea. This enhanced circulation is thought to play a key role in the observed boost in mental function.
The study adds to growing evidence that certain herbal teas may offer more than just comfort—they might also support sharper thinking and better brain health.
