Pakistan’s Baseball Teams Surge in Global Rankings

Pakistan’s men’s and women’s baseball teams have made remarkable strides in the latest World Baseball Federation rankings, each climbing three spots globally. The men’s team advanced from 38th to 35th worldwide, securing the 8th position in Asia, while the women’s team rose from 17th to 14th globally, claiming 7th in Asia.

Fakhar Ali Shah, President of the Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF), celebrated the teams’ progress, particularly noting the women’s team’s success despite limited recent international exposure. “Our players are excelling under challenging conditions, and these rankings reflect their dedication,” Shah said. He expressed optimism about their continued growth, even though both teams missed the recent Asian Games.

Globally, Japan dominates both the men’s and women’s rankings, followed by Chinese Taipei, the United States, South Korea, and Mexico. To prepare for the upcoming Asian Baseball Championship in China from September 22–28, 2025, the PBF has enlisted Japanese coach Kazuto Nonaka. Since May, Nonaka has been mentoring two key players, Faisal Hayat and Musharraf, in an intensive training program in Japan to sharpen their skills.

In another strategic move, the PBF appointed national team pitcher Alex Khan as head coach of the Pakistan Under-18 team for the 2026 U-18 World Cup qualifiers. Khan, a veteran of the 2022 World Baseball Classic and a participant in the upcoming Asian Championship, is expected to bring his expertise to guide the young squad.

These developments signal a bright future for Pakistan’s baseball program as it builds momentum on the global stage through enhanced training, strategic coaching, and rising talent.
