The Pakistani Academy Selection Committee has officially opened the call for film submissions for the 98th Academy Awards. Filmmakers aiming to represent Pakistan in the prestigious International Feature Film category at the Oscars must submit their entries by August 15, 2025.

This category, overseen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), is dedicated to feature-length films produced outside the United States, with at least 50% of dialogue in a language other than English. Eligible entries can also include documentary and animated films, provided they meet the Academy’s standards.

The selection process is managed by a committee comprising a diverse group of industry professionals—including directors, producers, artists, and technical experts. Members are chosen through a private nomination and referral process, and all candidates are reviewed by the International Feature Film Executive Committee for final approval.

Once films are submitted, each committee member is required to watch every eligible entry and cast votes individually. The Chairperson, along with the team, coordinates vote counting in collaboration with the Academy to ensure transparency and compliance. Ultimately, one film is selected to represent Pakistan as the official Oscar entry.

Over recent years, notable submissions from Pakistan have included “Joyland,” “The Glassworker,” and “In Flames.”

• The film must have a minimum seven-day consecutive theatrical release in a commercial cinema between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.
• The release must occur outside the United States and its territories.
• Theatrical release must follow standard industry distribution practices, including promotional efforts.
• Films that premiere on non-theatrical platforms (like TV, streaming services, or airline entertainment) prior to a cinema release will be considered ineligible.
• Films must feature primarily non-English dialogue with clear English subtitles.
