Pakistan Unveils National AI Policy to Train One Million Professionals by 2030

On July 30, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, where the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025 was unanimously approved, marking a transformative step toward building a robust AI ecosystem in Pakistan. The policy sets bold goals to position the country as a regional leader in AI innovation by 2030.

The ambitious plan targets training one million AI professionals within five years and developing 1,000 homegrown AI products to drive technological advancement. Additionally, it outlines the launch of 50,000 civic AI projects, the provision of 3,000 annual scholarships, and support for 1,000 research initiatives to foster a culture of innovation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the pivotal role of Pakistan’s youth, stating, “Our young talent is the backbone of this nation. Equipping them with cutting-edge AI skills and opportunities is central to our vision for progress.” The policy prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring access to education and funding for women and differently-abled individuals, while aligning with global AI standards and strengthening national cybersecurity.

To oversee the policy’s execution, an AI Council will be established, supported by a comprehensive Master Plan and Action Matrix. The government will also introduce AI Innovation and Venture Funds to spur private-sector participation and entrepreneurship.

The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of IT and collaborating departments for their swift and effective contributions to the policy’s development. “This AI framework will revolutionize sectors like agriculture, governance, and public services, boosting productivity and modernizing our economy,” he added.

By fostering innovation, inclusivity, and global alignment, the National AI Policy 2025 positions Pakistan to harness the transformative power of AI, empowering its workforce and driving sustainable economic growth.
