A high-intensity counter-terrorism operation in Hangu district has resulted in the deaths of nine militants linked to the group known as “Fitna-e-Hindustan,” with four security personnel, including senior officers, sustaining injuries during the mission.
Launched on the basis of intelligence reports, the operation targeted insurgent hideouts in the rugged areas of Zargari and Shinwari. The militants, believed to be backed by Indian handlers, had reportedly entrenched themselves in the mountainous terrain. In response, authorities imposed a district-wide curfew and bolstered security across key checkpoints to prevent further insurgent movement or retaliation.
Heavy Gun Battle in Shinwari
A fierce exchange of fire erupted during the raid in Shinwari, resulting in injuries to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Khalid and Station House Officer (SHO) Nabi Khan of Doaba Police Station. DPO Khalid sustained multiple bullet wounds and was transferred to Peshawar after receiving emergency care at the District Headquarters Hospital. His condition has been declared stable. SHO Khan suffered minor injuries and is recovering.
Security forces, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Frontier Corps (FC), have expanded the operation to flush out remaining militant elements. According to a police spokesperson, several terrorists were also wounded in the ongoing offensive, which will continue until the area is fully cleared.
National Praise for Security Forces
Inspector General of KP Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, commended DPO Khalid’s leadership, noting that he was personally directing the operation when he was injured. “His resolve is unshaken, and the fight against terrorism will continue with the same intensity,” said Hameed.
President Asif Ali Zardari also praised the security personnel for their bravery, affirming that Pakistan will not allow peace to be disrupted by extremist forces. “The nation stands united against terrorism. We will defeat these elements with unwavering resolve,” he stated, offering prayers for the injured officers.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached out to DPO Khalid via phone, lauding his leadership and courage. “You and your team have valiantly taken down five terrorists belonging to Fitna-e-Hindustan. The country is proud of you,” said Naqvi, promising continued government support in the fight against terrorism.
As the operation continues, security officials reaffirm that the crackdown on militant elements will persist until complete peace and stability are restored in the region.
