Telugu film star Lakshmi Manchu has voiced strong opposition to the ongoing restrictions placed on Pakistani artists in India, calling for a more inclusive and open approach to cross-border artistic collaboration.

Her comments follow the controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3, which features Indian actor Diljit Dosanjh alongside Pakistani star Hania Aamir. The film has faced a release block in India due to objections from local entertainment authorities, sparking wider debate about the role of politics in the arts.

Lakshmi criticised the rising trend of politicising creative expression, questioning whether targeting artists achieves anything meaningful. “Are Pakistani artists really a threat?” she asked, challenging the rationale behind the backlash against cross-national film projects.

The actress emphasized that art should transcend political barriers and act as a unifying force rather than a divisive one. She expressed disappointment over recent reports of Pakistani celebrities facing social media suspensions, calling such actions a violation of free expression. “If we treat them like this, where is the India we are proud of?” she asked.

Lakshmi argued that imposing blanket bans on Pakistani talent not only stifles creativity but also dismantles opportunities for cultural exchange. She stated passionately, “Artists rise above nationalities. To tell someone they can’t create simply because of where they’re from is a betrayal of what art stands for.”
