F4 Delights Fans with Surprise Reunion at Mayday Concert in Taipei

In a heartwarming blast from the past, legendary Taiwanese boy band F4 stunned fans with a surprise reunion during rock band Mayday’s concert at the Taipei Arena on Saturday.

The iconic quartet — Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Vic Chou, and Ken Chu — performed their hit ballad Meteor Rain, sending waves of nostalgia through the crowd of 40,000. Fans instantly recognized the theme song from the 2001 drama Meteor Garden, which launched F4 into pan-Asian stardom.

Based on the Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers, Meteor Garden became a cultural phenomenon across Asia, popularizing the “idol drama” genre. The story followed a working-class girl navigating school life with four wealthy and arrogant boys — the “F4” or Flower Four.

The series also starred Barbie Hsu, who tragically passed away in February due to pneumonia.

Since their disbandment in 2009, F4 has only reunited once — for a televised performance in 2013. Saturday’s performance marked their first onstage appearance together in over a decade, making the moment all the more emotional for fans.

Mayday’s lead singer Ashin (Chen Hsin-hung) revealed that bringing the four stars back together had been years in the making. “Everyone overcame a lot of obstacles to make this picture a reality,” he said.

Alongside Meteor Rain, F4 joined Mayday in performing The Song of Laughter and Forgetting, adding to the night’s unforgettable atmosphere.

Band member Jerry Yan, now 48, thanked Mayday for their efforts: “This is something I never imagined would happen again in my lifetime. It’s made us reflect on our youth.”

Vanness Wu, 46, echoed the sentiment: “I’m very grateful to everyone who came to share this beautiful evening with us.”

The band’s surprise appearance lit up social media. One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “OMG!! Thank you Mayday! My childhood is alive!” Another added, “Our inner child is crying. Tour soon, please!”

Rumors of a full-scale F4 concert in 2026 — to mark the group’s 25th anniversary — have been circulating, but no official confirmation has been made.

For now, fans are cherishing the long-awaited reunion of the beloved boy band that helped define a generation of pop culture.
