BIEK Delays Wednesday Exams Due to Youm-e-Takbeer

KARACHI — The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has officially announced the postponement of all examinations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, a national day commemorating Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted in 1998.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, BIEK confirmed that the decision was made in line with the Sindh government’s notification declaring May 28 as a public holiday across the province. As a result, all intermediate exams scheduled for that day will be rescheduled, and new dates will be announced shortly.

Public Holiday in Honor of National Achievement

Youm-e-Takbeer marks a significant day in Pakistan’s history—the successful detonation of nuclear devices in the Chagai hills of Balochistan in 1998, making Pakistan the first nuclear power in the Islamic world. The day is celebrated annually with various events, tributes, and official ceremonies honoring the country’s defense capabilities and scientific achievements.

Given the importance of the occasion, the Sindh government opted to declare a public holiday, prompting educational boards, including BIEK, to delay all academic activities for the day.

Rescheduling Details to Follow

Students, parents, and educational institutions have been advised to stay updated through BIEK’s official website and social media channels for the revised exam schedule. A senior BIEK official stated, “The new dates for the postponed papers will be announced soon. We request students to remain patient and prepare accordingly.”

Reactions from Students and Parents

The announcement was met with mixed reactions. While some students expressed relief at having an extra day to prepare, others voiced concerns about the disruption to their study plans. “It’s a significant national day, so we respect the decision,” said a second-year pre-medical student. “But we hope the rescheduled exams don’t pile up and create more pressure.”

Parents, meanwhile, appreciated the clarity and timely communication from the board, calling it a “practical decision” in view of the public holiday.

What’s Next

BIEK is expected to announce the updated timetable within the next few days, ensuring that the overall examination calendar stays on track. Students are advised to use the extra time to revise and prepare, while continuing to monitor official updates.

In the meantime, educational institutions and students across Karachi will observe Youm-e-Takbeer with pride and reflection, paying tribute to a defining moment in the nation’s history.
