President Asif Ali Zardari has hailed the enduring legacy of the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, describing her vision as a “beacon of hope” that continues to guide Pakistan toward democratic strength and social justice.
In a heartfelt message commemorating what would have been Benazir Bhutto’s 72nd birthday, President Zardari paid homage to her lifelong commitment to democratic ideals and her sacrifices in the pursuit of justice and equality.
“Benazir Bhutto’s unwavering dedication to democracy, human rights, and the empowerment of women is etched into the history of this nation,” the president said. “Her courage in the face of dictatorship and her determination to uphold the Constitution serve as a powerful reminder of what principled leadership looks like.”
Zardari emphasized that her legacy is not only a cornerstone of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) but also a source of inspiration for all those working to build a fair and inclusive society. He highlighted her fearless resistance against authoritarian regimes and her deep-rooted belief in constitutional supremacy and legal integrity.
“She championed the cause of the underprivileged, stood up for minority communities, and tirelessly worked to uplift women both socially and economically,” he added. “Benazir Bhutto dreamed of a peaceful and democratic Pakistan, and that dream continues to shape our national vision.”
Reaffirming his party’s commitment to her mission, President Zardari pledged to carry forward Benazir’s ideals by reinforcing democratic institutions and safeguarding the fundamental rights of every citizen.
“Her life remains a source of strength and purpose. By staying true to her values, we not only honor her memory but also move closer to realizing the inclusive and democratic Pakistan she fought for,” he concluded.
Benazir Bhutto, the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority nation, was assassinated in 2007. Her leadership and legacy remain deeply embedded in Pakistan’s political and social landscape.
