Apple TV+’s mind-bending thriller Severance and HBO’s gritty crime drama The Penguin have emerged as the frontrunners in this year’s Emmy Awards race, leading the field with the most nominations announced on Tuesday.
Severance tops the list with an impressive 27 nominations, including a nod for Outstanding Drama Series. The series, known for its psychological depth and chilling corporate dystopia, is up against other acclaimed titles like Andor, The Pitt, The White Lotus, and more in the drama category.
Close behind, The Penguin—a noir-inspired tale set in the DC Comics universe and starring Colin Farrell—secured 24 nominations. The series will contend for Best Limited Series alongside Netflix’s breakout coming-of-age drama Adolescence and other contenders.
HBO continued its Emmy streak with two other heavyweights, The Studio, a sharp satire on the entertainment industry, and the fan-favorite The White Lotus, each earning 23 nominations.
The comedy categories saw familiar favorites return, including Hacks, last year’s winner The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and newcomer Nobody Wants This.
In the acting categories, veteran actor Noah Wyle returned to the Emmy spotlight for the first time in over two decades with a nomination for his performance in The Pitt, echoing his earlier recognition from his ER days. Harrison Ford, at 83, earned his very first Emmy nomination for his role as a cranky therapist in Shrinking.
Other standout acting nods went to Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Jean Smart (Hacks), Kathy Bates (Matlock), and The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The Emmy Awards, widely regarded as the television industry’s highest honor, will be presented live on September 14 in a star-studded ceremony broadcast on CBS. Comedian Nate Bargatze is set to host the evening, which will celebrate excellence across the TV landscape. Winners will be chosen by the Television Academy’s 26,000 members, which include performers, directors, writers, and producers.
