Samina Peerzada Opens Up About 7-Year Break from Acting Ahead of Film Comeback

Veteran Pakistani actress Samina Peerzada has revealed the deeply personal reasons behind her extended absence from the entertainment industry, ahead of her return to the screen in the upcoming horror-thriller Dimak, set to release on June 6.

In a recent interview, Peerzada explained that her last television drama, Balaa, left a lasting emotional toll that compelled her to step away from acting for several years. In the show, she portrayed an elderly mother suffering from memory loss — a role that eerily mirrored her real-life situation at the time.

“My mother was going through the same thing in real life,” she shared. “Each day, I would care for her in the morning and then head to the set to act out the very same scenario. It was emotionally overwhelming.”

The overlap between fiction and reality became too painful. Not long after filming concluded, her mother passed away — an event that intensified her emotional fatigue and led her to take a break from acting.

“I was mentally and emotionally drained,” Peerzada said. “After that, I wanted to spend time with my daughters and focus on healing.”

Soon after, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, putting the entertainment industry on pause and further extending her time away from screen projects.

Now, seven years later, Samina Peerzada is set to make her much-anticipated return in Dimak, a horror film releasing just ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. The movie also stars celebrated names like Javed Sheikh, Sonya Hussyn, and Faisal Qureshi.

While Dimak marks her return to cinema, Peerzada’s fans are excited to see the legendary actress back on screen, bringing her signature emotional depth and presence to a new genre.
