Saeed Ajmal Makes WCL History with Record-Breaking 6/16 Against Australia Champions

Saeed Ajmal turned back the clock with a masterful bowling display, registering the best figures in World Championship of Legends (WCL) history as Pakistan Champions crushed Australia Champions at Grace Road on Tuesday.

The veteran off-spinner delivered a magical spell of 6 wickets for just 16 runs, becoming the first player to claim a five-wicket haul in the tournament’s history and surpassing the previous best of 4/11 set by West Indies’ Fidel Edwards earlier in the competition.

Top WCL Bowling Figures to Date:

  1. Saeed Ajmal (Pakistan) – 6/16 vs Australia
  2. Fidel Edwards (West Indies) – 4/11 vs England
  3. Aaron Phangiso (South Africa) – 4/13 vs Australia
  4. Stuart Meaker (England) – 4/24 vs West Indies
  5. Ajmal Shahzad (England) – 4/31 vs India

Ajmal’s spell left Australia Champions in tatters. His first breakthrough came in the sixth over when he dismissed aggressive opener Ben Dunk (26 off 14), followed swiftly by two more scalps in the same over. He struck again in his next over to remove Ben Cutting, before sealing his record-breaking figures by removing Peter Siddle and Steve O’Keefe in his final over.

Thanks to Ajmal’s brilliance, Australia Champions were bundled out for just 74 runs.

Pakistan Champions, in response, chased down the target with ease. Openers Sharjeel Khan (32 not out) and Sohaib Maqsood (28 not out) put on a commanding partnership, steering their team to a 10-wicket victory in just 7.3 overs.

The emphatic win not only showcased Pakistan’s dominance in the tournament but also cemented Saeed Ajmal’s place in WCL history with a performance for the ages.
