Ronaldo Turns Down Club World Cup Offers, Prioritises Rest and Long-Term Goals

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he declined offers to play in the upcoming Club World Cup, choosing instead to rest and focus on preparing for a demanding season with both Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team.

In a video released by Al-Nassr on X (formerly Twitter), the 40-year-old star explained his decision:
“I had some offers to play in the Club World Cup, but I think it didn’t make sense. I prefer to have good rest and proper preparation because this season will be very long, especially with the World Cup coming at the end of the year.”

Ronaldo’s comments came shortly after signing a new two-year contract with the Saudi Pro League side, extending his stay past his 42nd birthday. The announcement quells recent speculation, especially after FIFA President Gianni Infantino had hinted at potential discussions to include Ronaldo in the Club World Cup, despite Al-Nassr not qualifying.

“I want to be ready — not just for Al-Nassr, but also for my national team,” Ronaldo said. “That’s why I chose to focus on the Nations League final and didn’t consider anything else.”

In that final, Ronaldo scored for Portugal in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Spain, which Portugal ultimately won on penalties.

Speaking about his future with Al-Nassr, Ronaldo expressed clear ambition:
“My goal has always been to win something important with this club. I renewed for two more years because I believe I can be a champion here in Saudi Arabia.”

Since joining Al-Nassr in 2022 following his departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo has scored 93 goals in 105 matches across all competitions.

He’s also inching closer to an extraordinary career milestone — 1,000 career goals. With 794 goals in club football and 138 for Portugal, his tally currently stands at 932.

By opting for rest over the glamour of the Club World Cup, Ronaldo is betting on longevity, peak performance, and one more shot at footballing glory — both at the club and international levels.
