Rifts Surface in PTI Over 90-Day Protest Strategy Amid Mixed Messaging

Internal divisions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have come to light as conflicting statements emerge regarding the party’s upcoming protest campaign, revealing a lack of consensus at the leadership level.

The discord was sparked after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced a 90-day nationwide protest movement during a press conference in Lahore. Gandapur declared that the party would mobilize across the country with or without being in government, vowing a determined push to galvanize public support.

“We will go all out in this movement,” Gandapur said, hinting at an aggressive and sustained campaign.

However, PTI Punjab chief organizer Aliya Hamza Malik responded with visible skepticism and confusion over the announcement. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she questioned both the origin and clarity of the proposed movement.

“What 90-Day Plan?”

Aliya expressed surprise at the plan, writing, “What action plan has been announced for Imran Khan’s release yesterday or today? Where is this movement being run from and what are the goals? Where did this 90-day plan come from?” She further urged party members to share the details if they were aware of any concrete roadmap.

Citing her recent engagements, Aliya said she may have missed some developments but emphasized that PTI’s sole focus should remain on the release of Imran Khan, stating:

“The focus and the slogan is only one: the release of Imran Khan.”

Her statements suggest a lack of communication and strategic alignment within PTI’s ranks, especially regarding the goals and structure of the protest campaign.

PTI Leadership Attempts to Manage Internal Discord

Amid the brewing confusion, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja revealed that he had reached out to Aliya Hamza and invited her to a parliamentary party meeting. However, she was reportedly engaged with other responsibilities.

The public airing of these differences has sparked questions about the party’s coordination and unity, particularly at a time when it seeks to rally national support under the banner of political resistance.

While CM Gandapur’s bold declarations hint at an expansive political mobilisation effort, Aliya Hamza’s remarks underline a broader concern within the party: What is the plan, and who is steering it?

This unfolding scenario could impact the momentum of PTI’s campaign if internal clarity is not urgently restored.
