Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has reaffirmed the provincial government’s vision to transform Punjab into a leading hub for healthcare innovation by embracing technology-driven solutions such as smart hospitals, telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), and evidence-based clinical practices.
Speaking as the chief guest at the National Research and Innovation Conference 2025, held at King Edward Medical University (KEMU), the minister emphasized the government’s dedication to reshaping the province’s healthcare landscape under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
He highlighted a series of landmark initiatives, including the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme, Dialysis and Transplant Programmes, Clinic on Wheels, and the establishment of mobile field hospitals. Additionally, he noted the launch of modern healthcare institutions such as the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, as well as cardiology centers in Lahore and Sargodha.
“We are equipping our medical institutions with AI and research labs, integrating AI education into undergraduate courses, and advancing health data management systems,” the minister said.
Vice Chancellor of KEMU, Professor Mahmood Ayaz, expressed gratitude for the minister’s participation and reiterated the university’s commitment to global academic excellence and public service. Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, praised Punjab’s medical professionals for their global contributions and commended the organization of the event.
During the ceremony, Khawaja Salman Rafique presented gold medals, cash awards, and certificates to high-achieving students. He also visited research and innovation stalls set up by students, applauding their creativity and forward-thinking projects.
The conference drew a large gathering of senior doctors, faculty members, and medical students, all united in their commitment to advancing healthcare research and innovation in Punjab.
