Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues through peaceful means. He made these remarks during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Welcoming the envoy, the prime minister conveyed his warm regards to King Charles III and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing anticipation for his upcoming meeting with British leadership later this year.
A key highlight of the discussion was the United Kingdom’s recent decision to resume Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from the UK — a move PM Shehbaz described as a significant relief for the British-Pakistani diaspora and a step toward fostering greater people-to-people contact. He also praised the high commissioner’s role in facilitating the development.
On the broader bilateral front, PM Shehbaz noted the growing strength of Pakistan-UK relations. He expressed satisfaction with recent trade negotiations between the two countries, saying they held promise for expanding economic cooperation and mutual benefit.
He further highlighted ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and the UK at the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan currently holds the rotating presidency. The two also exchanged views on regional developments in South Asia and the Middle East, with the prime minister appreciating the UK’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions during previous Pakistan-India confrontations.
High Commissioner Marriott thanked the prime minister for the meeting and shared insights from her recent visit to London, where she held consultations aimed at further enhancing bilateral ties.
The interaction underscored the commitment of both countries to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and people-centered partnerships while encouraging dialogue and peace in the region.
