PM Shehbaz Lauds Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim’s Victory in Punjab Senate Election

On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Hafiz Abdul Karim, the newly elected Senator and Emir of Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, at a meeting in Islamabad to congratulate him on his recent Senate victory from Punjab. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Karim’s ability to contribute meaningfully to legislative processes, drawing on his religious and political expertise.

During the discussion, Sharif highlighted his hope that Senator Karim would play a pivotal role in shaping effective legislation. Karim, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership for their support and trust during the Senate election. The meeting also covered the broader political landscape of Pakistan, touching on key national issues.

Hafiz Abdul Karim secured the Senate seat on Monday, representing PML-N in a by-election triggered by the passing of Professor Sajid Mir. Karim won decisively with 243 votes out of 345 cast, surpassing the required 185 votes. Backed by the ruling coalition’s 261 votes, he outpaced the opposition’s 108 votes, with four candidates vying for the vacant seat.

The victory strengthens PML-N’s presence in the upper house, and Karim’s election is seen as a step toward advancing the party’s legislative agenda. The Prime Minister’s warm reception underscores the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration with influential figures like Karim to address Pakistan’s challenges.
