Messi Makes MLS History with Fourth Consecutive Brace in Inter Miami Win

Lionel Messi continues to rewrite the MLS record books, becoming the first player in league history to score multiple goals in four consecutive matches. His latest heroics came in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution.

The 38-year-old Argentine forward struck twice in the first half, bringing his tally to 14 goals in just 15 MLS appearances this season. His current scoring streak began in May, when he netted braces in wins over CF Montréal and Columbus Crew before a brief stint at the Club World Cup.

Although Messi managed just one goal across four matches during Miami’s early exit to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup last 16, he returned to league play in dominant fashion—scoring twice in a 4-1 win against Montréal last week, and again against New England.

“Leo is a special player,” said Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano. “For me, he’s the greatest to ever play the game. What he’s still doing at this level is unbelievable. We’re fortunate to have him.”

Against New England, Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a composed left-footed finish inside the box. Eleven minutes later, he doubled the lead with a curling shot after a brilliant long pass from longtime teammate Sergio Busquets.

New England pulled one back through Carles Gil in the 79th minute, but Miami held on to secure the win, climbing to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Messi’s streak adds to a growing list of MLS records. He holds the league’s record for most assists in a single game (five) and most goal contributions in one match (six), both set during a 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls last May.

His 58 goal contributions so far also make him the all-time leading contributor in Inter Miami’s history.
