Popular Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has spoken out against a growing trend in which fellow celebrities are poking fun at TV host and actor Sahir Lodhi, urging the public and her peers to show more empathy.
In recent weeks, a series of stylized videos featuring Sahir Lodhi have been making the rounds on social media. These clips, filmed in the style of Indian paparazzi reels, appear candid but are actually staged and shared from Lodhi’s own Instagram account, with his team behind the scenes.
While many netizens have reacted with amusement, the trend took on new momentum when actors Yasir Nawaz, Faisal Qureshi, and Ijaz Aslam began posting exaggerated impersonations of Lodhi. Yasir Nawaz is believed to have initiated the trend, which quickly caught on among others in the entertainment industry.
However, not everyone found it funny.
Taking to her Instagram, Mehwish Hayat expressed concern over the tone and intent behind these videos, calling them insensitive. She praised Sahir Lodhi’s long-standing commitment to the entertainment industry, emphasizing that consistency and dedication should be recognized—not mocked.
“It’s disappointing to see people turning him into a punchline,” Hayat wrote. “Regardless of your opinion on someone’s style or choices, that doesn’t justify public ridicule. He’s a person with emotions—just like all of us.”
She further stressed the importance of kindness in public discourse, especially toward individuals who continue to persevere in the face of judgment and criticism.
“Let’s make compassion the norm,” she added. “Support those who continue to show up every day, even when the world makes it hard.”
Hayat’s message serves as a poignant reminder about the line between humor and humiliation. In an industry often driven by image and public perception, her call for empathy resonates far beyond this single incident.
