Award-winning actress Jaya Ahsan is set to grace the silver screen once again in her upcoming Bengali film Dear Maa, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. Scheduled for release in Kolkata on July 18, 2025, the film adds to Ahsan’s impressive streak—marking her fourth film in just three months.
Sharing the official poster on social media a day before its release, Jaya captioned her post: “Dear Maa is coming July 18.” The tagline of the film, “Bound not by blood, but by love,” hints at a deeply emotional story that transcends conventional family ties.
Known for his thoughtful explorations of human relationships, director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury brings his signature narrative depth to Dear Maa. The film weaves a heartfelt tale around a daughter and her parents, highlighting the emotional intricacies of modern familial bonds and the layers within them.
Joining Jaya in this poignant drama are Chandan Roy Sanyal, Saswata Chatterjee, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and Padmapriya Janakiraman. This marks Jaya Ahsan’s second collaboration with Chowdhury, following their earlier work on the Hindi-language thriller Kadak Singh, which streamed on ZEE5.
In Dear Maa, Jaya plays a mother navigating emotional upheaval, internal dilemmas, and unresolved memories. She has described the role as one of her most challenging yet, noting that the storytelling style is quintessentially Chowdhury—whom she fondly refers to as Tonida.
With its strong cast, sensitive storytelling, and a director known for layered human dramas, Dear Maa promises to be a deeply moving cinematic experience. As anticipation builds ahead of its release, viewers across Bengal and beyond are looking forward to witnessing another powerful performance from one of South Asia’s most respected actors.
