Ishaq Dar Reaffirms Pakistan’s Global Commitments in High-Level UN Meetings

During his official visit to the United States, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to addressing key global challenges, emphasizing diplomacy, development, and peacebuilding in a series of high-level meetings at the United Nations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Dar met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of his engagements in New York. In the meeting, Dar stressed the importance of strengthening the United Nations’ role in resolving long-standing international disputes and advancing the goals of sustainable development.

Highlighting regional concerns, Dar drew attention to the Kashmir conflict, the violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, and state-sponsored terrorism in the region. He urged the UN to play a more proactive role in facilitating peace through dialogue and diplomacy, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the principles outlined in the UN Charter.

Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to violence against civilians. Secretary-General Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s active participation and positive contributions within the UN system, particularly at the Security Council.

In a separate meeting, Dar met with UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang, where the two leaders discussed global cooperation and Pakistan’s role in multilateral platforms.

Addressing the UN High-Level Political Forum

Later, Ishaq Dar addressed the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, where he underscored Pakistan’s strong commitment to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In his national statement, Dar detailed Pakistan’s efforts to boost inclusive economic growth, strengthen climate resilience, and implement policy reforms amid increasing global challenges such as food insecurity and climate change.

“The food crisis and climate change represent some of the most urgent challenges facing the world today,” he said. “In response, initiatives like Uraan Pakistan aim to empower youth, foster innovation, and build long-term development solutions.”

He emphasized that Pakistan is taking deliberate, forward-thinking steps to meet its domestic and international responsibilities, while also contributing meaningfully to global peace and sustainable progress.
