Imran Ashraf’s International Punjabi Film Set for Global Release on August 22

Popular Pakistani actor and television host Imran Ashraf is making his international film debut in the upcoming Punjabi-language film “Ehna Nu Rehan Sajhna Nai Aunda”, which is scheduled for a global theatrical release—including in Pakistan—on August 22.

Ashraf, widely known for his hosting role on the comedy show Mazaq Raat and his performances in Pakistani cinema, takes on a leading role in this cross-border collaboration. Directed by Rupen Bal, the film brings together talent from across the Punjabi-speaking world, primarily featuring Canadian-based Indian Punjabi artists alongside Pakistani Punjabi actors.

Among the film’s notable co-stars are Jassie Gill, a well-known Indian Punjabi singer and actor, as well as Ranjit Bawa, Mandy Takhar, Sapna Pabbi, Nirmal Rishi, Nasir Chinyoti, and Nopreet Banga.

Though the trailer keeps much of the story under wraps, early reactions suggest the film is a lighthearted romantic comedy centered on student life, blending cultural themes with humor and emotion. The trailer has garnered a warm reception online, building anticipation ahead of its release.

Interestingly, the film’s predominantly Canadian production base appears to have helped sidestep the political sensitivities often associated with Pakistani-Indian artistic collaborations. So far, there has been no reported opposition from Indian right-wing circles regarding the inclusion of Pakistani talent.

While the film will screen in many countries, India is notably excluded from its release plan, likely due to ongoing political tensions.

With an international cast, cross-cultural appeal, and a well-loved lead actor stepping onto the global stage, Ehna Nu Rehan Sajhna Nai Aunda is shaping up to be a significant release in South Asian cinema this summer.
