Doué Shines as PSG Thrash Inter 5-0 to Claim First-Ever European Cup

MUNICH (Reuters) – Teen sensation Désiré Doué scored twice to lead Paris Saint-Germain to a historic 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in Saturday’s Champions League final, securing the French club’s first-ever European crown with the most lopsided victory in the competition’s final.

PSG’s emphatic win in Munich marked the culmination of a dramatic journey that began with uncertainty in the group stages and ended in total dominance on the biggest stage. It also fulfilled the dream long held by the club’s Qatari owners since acquiring the team in 2011.

After falling short in the 2020 final against Bayern Munich, PSG finally lifted the trophy that had eluded even the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé. They became just the second French club to win the Champions League, following Marseille’s triumph in 1993.

“Making history was our goal from the start of last season,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique. “I’ve felt an incredible bond with the players and the fans. We handled the pressure and excitement in the best way possible.”

PSG stunned the more experienced Inter side with a relentless display of attacking football, racing to a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes. Former Inter full-back Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring, assisted by Doué, who added a goal of his own just minutes later.

The 19-year-old Doué added his second in the 63rd minute after a slick through ball from Vitinha, calmly slotting past Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Ten minutes later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia got in on the act, latching onto a long-range pass from Ousmane Dembélé and finishing at the near post. Substitute Senny Mayulu capped the rout with a close-range strike in the 87th minute, assisted by Bradley Barcola.

Inter fans had filled the stadium with chants of “There’s Only Inter” before kickoff, but on the pitch, their team was overwhelmed and outclassed.

From the opening whistle, PSG dictated the tempo with crisp passing and fluid movement. Their first goal came in the 12th minute when Vitinha picked out Doué in the box. Although Inter appealed for offside, Federico Dimarco had played the PSG youngster onside. Doué squared the ball to Hakimi for a simple tap-in.

“We’ve made history,” Hakimi said. “This club has deserved it for a long time. We’ve built something special — a real family.”

Doué’s first goal came shortly after, following a counterattack led by Dembélé. The winger delivered a pinpoint cross to Doué, who chested it down and fired a shot that deflected off Dimarco and wrong-footed Sommer.

With Inter forced to chase the game in the second half, PSG seized control. Vitinha once again found Doué in the box for the third, before Dembélé launched a pass from deep in his own half to spring Kvaratskhelia for the fourth. PSG’s bench erupted, with Luis Enrique stepping onto the pitch in celebration.

Enrique’s win marked a rare milestone — he joins Pep Guardiola as only the second manager to achieve the continental treble (league, domestic cup, and Champions League) twice, first with Barcelona and now with PSG, both times defeating Inter in the final.

“He’s changed everything here,” said Hakimi. “He’s brought loyalty, vision, and humility. He deserves this more than anyone.”

The fifth goal, finished by Mayulu, sent PSG fans into raptures and sealed a night of dominance that erased years of frustration.

For Inter, it was a bitter end to a season that promised so much. Manager Simone Inzaghi admitted, “It didn’t feel like my Inter out there tonight. The players know it. But I’m proud of the journey we’ve made.”

Luis Enrique, visibly moved after the final whistle and wearing a T-shirt in tribute to his late daughter Xana, has transformed PSG from a star-driven squad into a unified team with a shared purpose — and now, a European title.
