Digital Clues Shed Light on Humaira Asghar’s Mysterious Death

KARACHI: The investigation into the death of model and actress Humaira Asghar has gained momentum as police successfully retrieved data from several of her electronic devices, officials confirmed late Saturday.

Humaira’s lifeless body was discovered on July 8 in her apartment in Defence Phase VI’s Ittehad Commercial area, where she had lived alone for the past seven years. The discovery was made by a court-appointed bailiff executing an eviction order due to unpaid rent.

In a significant development, police said they accessed three mobile phones, a tablet, and a laptop belonging to the actor. Investigators were able to unlock the devices using passwords found written in a diary recovered from the room where her decomposing body was located.

Authorities said that two individuals have already provided their statements, while two others have been summoned for questioning. Investigators plan to speak with her gym trainer and close associates to reconstruct her final days.

Police also reviewed her financial records and communication history, noting that her contact list was relatively small—indicating a limited, close-knit social circle.

Officials have stated that no immediate signs of foul play were found at the scene. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem and chemical analysis reports are finalized. A formal case will be registered following the release of those findings.

On July 10, Sindh Police DIG South Asad Raza revealed that forensic findings suggest the body had been decomposing for approximately six months. He pointed to the expiration dates of food items in the apartment—marked 2024—and the last digital communications from October 2024 as supporting evidence.

Humaira rose to fame through the reality show Tamasha Ghar and gained further recognition for her role in the film Jalaibee.

Her death comes just weeks after veteran actress Ayesha Khan, aged 84, was found dead in her flat in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal, after neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from the premises—another tragic reminder of isolation in the entertainment world.
