A devastating incident occurred in Hasan Abdal, where heavy monsoon rains caused a vehicle to be swept away by a rapidly rising stream. Four women have been confirmed dead, and one child remains missing, as rescue operations continue.

Rescue officials reported that the vehicle, carrying ten members of a family, was caught in the powerful currents of the Jhari Kass stream in the Hasan Abdal tehsil of Rawalpindi district. The family, residents of Wah Cantt, had been returning home after attending a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred.

Of the ten people in the vehicle, five were successfully rescued. However, four women were found dead, and one child has yet to be located. Divers and emergency teams remain on site, actively searching the area for the missing child.

The incident follows a night of intense rainfall that struck Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and several other cities, resulting in widespread flash flooding. Low-lying areas were quickly submerged, and local streams and drains overflowed, creating hazardous conditions for residents and travelers alike.

Monsoon Rains Wreak Havoc Across Northern Pakistan

This latest tragedy highlights the ongoing dangers posed by the monsoon season, which has brought relentless rainfall to parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi were among the worst-hit areas. Saidpur received 90 mm of rain, Shamsabad 80 mm, Katarian 78 mm, and Pir Wadhai 52 mm. In response, Rawalpindi’s Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) declared a high alert to manage the urban flooding crisis.

Other cities including Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Muzaffarabad have also experienced heavy downpours, with water seeping into homes in low-lying neighborhoods.

In Kalabagh, flash floods triggered by the rains raised fears of potential landslides and river overflows, particularly in vulnerable regions of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety instructions as the monsoon rains continue.
