Asia Cup 2025: India Gets Green Light to Face Pakistan, Schedule to Be Announced Soon

Cricket fans around the globe have reason to celebrate as India has officially received clearance to face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, according to reports from Indian media. The Ministry of External Affairs of India has given the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) the go-ahead, clearing a major hurdle for what is considered one of the sport’s most electrifying rivalries.

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28, with all matches to be hosted in the UAE, a venue known for its neutrality and world-class cricket infrastructure. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), led by President Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to announce the official tournament schedule within the next 48 hours.

“I am looking forward to organizing a memorable Asia Cup,” said Naqvi, expressing his optimism for a smoothly conducted event.

Eight-Team Line-Up and Super Four Format

This year’s edition is likely to feature eight teams:

  • India
  • Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka
  • Bangladesh
  • Afghanistan
  • UAE
  • Oman
  • Hong Kong

The tournament will follow a group stage followed by a Super Four format, ensuring intense competition leading up to the final.

Diplomatic Progress and Unity in Cricket

One of the major developments reported is the resolution of prior differences between key participating nations, especially India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. This diplomatic breakthrough has paved the way for finalizing the schedule and ensuring full participation.

At the ACC annual meeting held on July 24 in Dhaka, Naqvi confirmed productive talks with the BCCI and praised the overall cooperation of all 25 member nations, many of whom joined virtually.

“The atmosphere was excellent, and we all agreed to keep politics away from cricket,” Naqvi stated, adding that teamwork and a shared vision were central to the meeting’s success.

India-Pakistan Clash Awaits Final Confirmation

While cricket fans eagerly await the exact date for the India-Pakistan match, Naqvi urged patience, assuring that the full schedule—including match venues and key fixtures—will be unveiled soon.

UAE Gears Up as Host

The UAE, particularly Abu Dhabi, is expected to host most of the matches, leveraging its successful track record of hosting major cricket tournaments, including previous editions of the Asia Cup and IPL.

With BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla representing India in the Dhaka meeting (virtually), the final draft of the schedule is in the works, and internal preparations are being accelerated following the Indian government’s nod for participation.

The Asia Cup 2025 promises not only thrilling cricket action but also a message of unity and sportsmanship across borders—marking a hopeful step forward for the sport in Asia.
