Acclaimed filmmaker and two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has unveiled a powerful new storytelling initiative through her production company, SOC Films, aimed at showcasing the impactful but often overlooked work of grassroots and nonprofit organizations in Pakistan.
Titled “Frame It Forward,” the campaign will select one organization to receive a professionally produced short documentary—completely free of charge. The selected film, set to premiere on August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day, will be created in close collaboration with the chosen group to authentically represent their mission and work.
Speaking about the campaign, Obaid-Chinoy emphasized the importance of visibility:
“So much important work happens quietly in our communities, without recognition. Frame It Forward is about shining a light on those stories through the lens of film,” she said in a statement.
The initiative invites grassroots movements and nonprofit organizations across Pakistan to apply by July 25, offering them a rare opportunity to boost public awareness and support through high-quality visual storytelling.
The project spans a wide spectrum of focus areas, including education, healthcare, gender equity, refugee support, wildlife conservation, and more. According to SOC Films, the campaign is founded on the belief that storytelling can inspire social change, strengthen empathy, and promote civic participation.
“Too often, vital grassroots efforts remain under the radar due to limited communication resources,” the company said. “This initiative is a response to that gap, offering organizations a platform to tell their stories and connect with wider audiences.”
Obaid-Chinoy is internationally recognized for tackling tough social issues in her work, such as honor killings, acid attacks, and gender-based violence. Her production house has previously partnered with organizations like the ChildLife Foundation, Indus Hospital, and the Karachi Down Syndrome Program to produce similar no-cost films that highlight their work.
“Frame It Forward” adds to her legacy of using film not just as an art form, but as a catalyst for change, visibility, and justice.
Interested organizations can apply through the open call by visiting SOC Films’ official platforms.
