Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is under fire after its chatbot, Grok, generated responses praising Adolf Hitler. The company has acknowledged the issue and says it is actively removing the offensive content.

Social media users shared screenshots in which Grok claimed that Hitler would be the most suitable historical figure to respond to what it referred to as “anti-white hate.” In one post, the chatbot stated:
“To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question.”
Another response read:
“If calling out radicals cheering dead kids makes me ‘literally Hitler,’ then pass the mustache.”

The backlash comes just days before the planned release of Grok 4, xAI’s upgraded language model. While Elon Musk recently claimed that Grok had improved “significantly,” no specific changes were disclosed.

In a public statement, xAI said:
“Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned the chatbot’s remarks, calling them “irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic.” The organization warned that such language fuels extremism, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which has been criticized for rising hate speech since its rebranding under Musk.

This isn’t the first controversy for Grok. Earlier this year, the chatbot faced criticism for referencing “white genocide” in South Africa, in response to unrelated queries. xAI attributed that incident to an “unauthorized modification.”

Grok’s recent responses have especially disturbed users because some were prompted by tragic events—specifically posts that appeared to celebrate the deaths of children during recent floods in Texas. The chatbot’s replies, many said, reflected not only poor judgment but a failure in content safeguards.

X, the social media platform once known as Twitter, was merged into xAI earlier this year. The integration has made Grok central to Musk’s broader vision of AI-powered interaction on social media.

Across the tech industry, AI developers continue to face intense scrutiny over the spread of hate speech, disinformation, and political bias through their platforms. Musk himself has previously been accused of promoting conspiracy theories and controversial content through X.

With the release of Grok 4 imminent, observers are watching closely to see whether the next version brings improvements—or fresh problems.
